Activities for babies

Simone: Looking for ideas to keep my very curious 5 mo entertained.

  • Bottle with coloured water in it
  • Empty bottle with some rice or pasta. Pots and pans or plastic bowls and spoons to bang.
  • Jolly jumper with a musical Matt on the floor as ur 5 mo jumps music is made from the Matt..
  • Activity centre? Jolly jumper? Swing?
  • a musical box with soothing music :)
  • Also I would suggest when it's not too hot put a blanket outside under a tree (shade) in your park and watch the leaves, clouds etc. the knobbly balls are good for children that age to hold and squeeze, soft scarves or ribbons you can wave in front of them, reading lots of books especially with rhyming and repetitive lines. Have fun
  • Few pegs in lil basket pots pans pasta rice in bottles rolling the ball bubbles
  • Toys with a mirror in it! :)
  • Balloons are good too, just dont inflate them too much, things that move or float around are great for them tracking objects from one side to the other. You can even get covers for the balloons to make them into a ball.
  • Check out " play at home mom" on facebook
  • Put baby in a sling so they can watch the world and go for a walk or do the house cleaning while they have a great view
  • Pop toys on the floor just out of reach and encourage baby to stretch out and reach them, if they get frustrated help them reach them
  • Make up a book with lots of photos of family and friends and read and make up stories and talk about all the people. Laminate the book so its lasts.
  • Bubbles are great for tracking, different textures or water bottles filled with things. A face washer to play peek a boo with. Hide toys under it and let them search. Sing songs, clap, wave, roll around the floor. I normally get a few toys out each day and rotate them so she isn't playing with the same things and getting bored...
  • Repeat all the noises baby makes at you back at them, this is the start of baby learning to talk.
  • Play beek a boo with a little blanket – this is good as baby learns when mummy goes away she will come back
  • Wrap up presents (just their toys) in crinkly paper for them to unwrap and play with. Cellophane is good as its rattly and doesn’t dissolve in their mouth (supervise well)
  • Fill up containers for baby to empty out....fill it with their toys or pegs or blocks etc
  • Get some musical instruments – babies love rattles, toys to shake, squeaky toys etc
