Edible Playdough Recipe

This is good for younger children, just in case they eat it. Regular playdough contains LOTS of salt. Note that salt is a preservative, so this will not keep as long. It should still last a week or more in an air tight container in the fridge. See the microwave option for a less messy pot.

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons Cream of Tartar

1 1/2 Cups Plain Flour

1 tablespoon Oil

1 Cup Water

Method:

Mix all the dry ingredients in a saucepan, then slowly mix in the water and oil until there are no lumps. Stir over a medium heat until the mixture forms one smooth ball.
Microwave option: Mix all ingredients in a microwave safe bowl, microwave on med/high for 3 min, mix well. Then microwave for another 2 minutes. Cooking time may vary depending on your microwave.

Tips:

Once cooked, allow to cool a little and divide into 2 or more portions. Add 1 or 2 drops of colouring and knead through with your hands. This is much easier than cooking multiple batches.

Optional:

If you want to use the salt, use just 1 cup of flour and add up to 1/2 cup with the dry ingredients.
